Big Idea: Conflict Kitchen

As described conflictkitchen.org

Conflict Kitchen is a take-out restaurant that only serves cuisine from countries that the United States is in conflict with. The food is served out of a take-out style storefront, which will rotate identities every four months to highlight another country. Each Conflict Kitchen iteration is augmented by events, performances, and discussion about the culture, politics, and issues at stake with each country we focus on.

Through food, wrappers, programming, and daily interactions with customers, Conflict Kitchen creates an ongoing platform for first-person discussion of international conflict, culture, and politics. In addition, the project introduces a rotating venue for culinary and cultural diversity in Pittsburgh, as future iterations will focus on North Korea, Venezuela, and more.

Crooked Cook: Name, Product, and Package Design.

The images below are the current packaging I have
developed for this product. However I am working
on labels that accentuate the individual ingredients
so there is a visual difference between the three
unique flavors.

Chatter Shatter: Apricot Current
Firecracker: Cherry Chili
Roots & Trees: Citrus Yam.

Images Below were the first set of comps.

Why Kissing Frogs?

While watching a lecture Bruce Mau gave at ACAD discussing his Massive Change traveling exhibit he showed a clip of an interview with a man named Dean Kamen, whose company, Deka has developed many revolutionary designs. At one point Dean was discussing his process and used the phrase “kissing frogs” to explain the ever evolving ever changing process that designers go through to get to their final solution. This idea stuck with me and seemed to reflect my own design process so perfectly that I decided to use it as the heading for my blog. Here is to kissing frogs, aka working really hard and tossing around a million ideas before finally developing the perfect solution.
